Legal Information

Last updated: 2 November 2026

This page is the legal information notice for the entertainment, celebrity and popular-culture publication published under the name PenPortix.net. It identifies the company that operates this website, records the registration and tax details that South African law requires a commercial publisher to disclose, explains the rules that apply when you read or use the site, and points you to our other policies. It applies to every page, feed, newsletter and article we make available, and it forms part of the agreement between you and us whenever you use the website. Please read it before you rely on anything published here.

1. Who operates this website, and what this notice covers

The website published under the name PenPortix.net (the website) is owned and operated by ZaPOP Media (Pty) Ltd (we, us, our, the publisher). PenPortix.net is the editorial brand under which we publish entertainment and celebrity journalism; the company is the legal person behind that brand and the only party that can bind it.

When you read the website, subscribe to a newsletter, comment on an article, submit a correction, advertise with us, or send us material of any kind, you are dealing with the company and not with an individual journalist, editor, photographer or contributor. Our editorial staff and freelancers publish on the company\'s behalf. Any undertaking, permission, correction, invoice or formal legal notice you receive from the publication is given by the company, and only the company can vary it.

This notice does not replace our other policies. It works together with them, and where a topic is dealt with in more detail elsewhere we say so and name the document you should read.

2. Our legal form, registration details and tax identifiers

South African law places wide disclosure obligations on businesses that trade electronically and on companies generally. Section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 requires a supplier that offers goods or services by way of an electronic transaction to make its full name and legal status, its registration details, its address and its contact information available on its website. The Companies Act 71 of 2008 requires a company to state its name and registration number on its notices, publications and communications. The Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 gives consumers the right to information in plain and understandable language about the person they are dealing with. We therefore publish the following.

  • Full legal name: ZaPOP Media (Pty) Ltd.
  • Legal status and form: a private company with limited liability, incorporated in the Republic of South Africa in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008, with its own legal personality.
  • Country of incorporation: Republic of South Africa.
  • Company registration number: 2006/024059/07, allocated by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), the office of registration for South African companies.
  • Value-added tax registration number: 4290252693, allocated by the South African Revenue Service. This number appears on our tax invoices.
  • Information Officer: Cindy Whitmill, registered with the Information Regulator (South Africa) in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 and the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000.
  • Deputy Information Officer: Charlene Gorrie.

We do not claim any licence, accreditation, permit or regulatory approval that we do not hold, and nothing on this website should be read as an assertion that we hold one. If our registration details, our tax details, or the identity of our Information Officer or Deputy Information Officer changes, this section is updated and the date at the top of this page changes with it.

3. Registered office and how to reach us

Our registered office, which is also the address at which we accept service of legal documents, formal notices, court process and written correspondence, is:

16 Coronation Road, Malvern, Durban, 4055, South Africa

Email is the channel we use for legal, editorial, privacy and reader correspondence. You can reach us at help@penportix.net. Messages sent to that address are monitored during ordinary South African business hours on weekdays, excluding public holidays. Please say clearly whether you are writing about a factual correction, an intellectual property complaint, a privacy or access request, an advertising enquiry, or something else, so that your message reaches the right person without delay.

Where a law requires a request or notice to be delivered in a particular way, for example a data subject request under the Protection of Personal Information Act or a request for access to records under the Promotion of Access to Information Act, that formality must still be complied with. Our manual prepared in terms of section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act describes the procedure and the prescribed forms, and our privacy documentation explains how personal information is handled.

4. Purpose, scope and intended audience of the website

PenPortix.net publishes news, interviews, profiles, reviews, opinion, photographs, video and commentary about the entertainment industry, celebrity culture, film, television, music, streaming, awards, red-carpet events, and the wider South African and international popular-culture landscape. The website is a journalistic publication. It is not a marketplace, a ticket seller, a booking agency, a talent agency or a financial adviser, and nothing published here is an offer of goods or services unless we say so expressly.

The website is intended for a general readership in South Africa and, to a lesser extent, for readers elsewhere who follow South African entertainment. It is written in English. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Some articles discuss adult themes, litigation, allegations, relationships, health, finances or deaths, and some report on allegations that are disputed. Those articles are journalistic accounts and not statements of fact beyond what we can fairly support.

Unless we expressly state otherwise, all content is published for general information and entertainment. It is not professional advice of any kind, and it must not be relied on as legal, medical, financial, tax, immigration or career advice. Reader comments and material contributed by users are the views of the people who post them and not our views.

5. Access to the website and acceptable use

You may browse the website free of charge. We aim to keep it available continuously, but access is provided on an as-available basis, subject to the limitations explained below. We may change, suspend, restrict or withdraw any part of the website, any feature, or access from any region, at any time without notice.

When you use the website you agree not to do any of the following:

  • Use the website for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes the rights of any person, including rights of privacy, dignity, reputation, copyright and trademark.
  • Copy, scrape, harvest, republish, resell or systematically extract articles, images, listings, comments or any other part of the website without our prior written permission.
  • Use automated tools, bots or crawlers in a way that places an unreasonable load on our systems or interferes with other readers.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the website, to any account, server or database, or to any network connected to it.
  • Introduce viruses, malware or any other harmful code.
  • Post, upload or transmit content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, misleading, or that impersonates another person or organisation.
  • Collect or publish personal information about other readers, contributors or public figures in breach of applicable law.

Where we provide comment facilities, newsletter sign-ups or other interactive features, we may remove content, block users or close accounts without notice if we reasonably believe that these rules have been broken. We may also preserve and disclose information where the law requires it, as explained in our privacy documentation.

6. Ownership of content, trademarks and permitted use

All copyright and related rights in the website and its contents belong to us or to our licensors, contributors, photographers, agencies and syndication partners. This includes text, headlines, photographs, illustrations, video, audio, layout, design, code and databases. Your use of the website does not transfer any ownership to you.

You may read the website, print a single copy of an article, and share a link to an article for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may quote short extracts fairly for reporting, criticism, review, teaching or research, provided you give clear credit to PenPortix.net and, where practicable, name the author. You may not republish substantial parts of an article, strip out credits, remove watermarks, present our material as your own, or use our content to train or feed automated systems, without prior written permission.

The names PenPortix.net and any associated logos, mastheads, slogans, section titles and marks are our trademarks or are used by us under licence. You may not use them in a way that suggests sponsorship, endorsement, partnership or affiliation where none exists, and you may not use them in advertising, in domain names or in metadata without written permission. Third-party trademarks and publicity images that appear on the website belong to their owners and are used for reporting, criticism or review.

If you believe that material on the website infringes your copyright, trademark or other rights, write to help@penportix.net with enough detail for us to identify the material, the right you say has been infringed, and the basis on which you hold that right. We investigate every complaint and will remove or amend material where that is the appropriate response.

7. Accuracy, availability and the limits of our liability

We work to a professional editorial standard and we correct significant errors when they are brought to our attention. Even so, journalism is produced under deadline pressure and the law of defamation, privacy and contempt places real limits on what can be published and when. We therefore cannot promise that every article, caption, headline, social media post or comment is complete, current or free of error at the moment you read it. Events move quickly, legal proceedings develop, and statements made by sources are sometimes later denied, withdrawn or disproved.

We provide the website on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not warrant uninterrupted access, freedom from harmful code, or that defects will be corrected. We may suspend the website for maintenance.

To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of reputation or loss of data arising from your use of the website or your reliance on anything published on it. Nothing in this notice excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud, for wilful misconduct, or under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where that Act applies. Nothing here limits your right to bring a claim in defamation or any other claim you may have in law.

8. External links and third-party content

Articles may refer to other websites, embed material hosted by third parties, quote press releases, or link to social media accounts, ticketing platforms, streaming services, sponsor pages and advertisers. Those services are controlled by other people. We do not control their content, availability, privacy practices or security, and a link or embed is not an endorsement of the destination or of anything said there.

When you follow a link away from the website, the terms and privacy notices of the destination apply. Advertising, sponsored content and paid partnerships are labelled where they appear, and they are governed by the agreement between us and the advertiser. If you believe that embedded or linked material is unlawful or harmful, please tell us using the contact route in section 3.

9. Other documents that form part of our terms

This legal notice works together with the following documents, which are published on the website and which you should read as well:

  • The Privacy Policy, which explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can exercise your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
  • The Cookie Policy, which explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the website, what each category does, and how you can manage or withdraw your consent through the cookie banner.
  • The Terms and Conditions, also described as the Terms of Use, which govern your access to the website, comments, newsletters, competitions and any subscription or purchase you make.
  • The Payment and Refund Policy, which explains pricing, payment methods, delivery where applicable, cancellations, returns and refunds for any paid product or subscription.
  • Our manual published in terms of section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000, which describes how to request access to records held by the company.

If there is a conflict between this notice and one of the documents listed above, the more specific document governs the topic it deals with, except where a rule of law requires otherwise.

10. Applicable law, jurisdiction and your consumer rights

This notice and your use of the website are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. Subject to what is said below, disputes are dealt with by the courts of South Africa, and the High Court of South Africa has jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, you may also be protected by the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and by other consumer legislation, and you may be entitled to approach the National Consumer Commission, the National Consumer Tribunal, a consumer court or an ombud with jurisdiction, free of charge, before or instead of going to court. Nothing in this notice takes away a right that the law gives you.

Requests about personal information and about access to records are dealt with by the Information Regulator (South Africa) in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act and the Promotion of Access to Information Act. Journalism is carried on subject to the general law, including the law of defamation, privacy, contempt of court and the constitutional protection of freedom of expression.

11. Membership of self-regulatory bodies and codes of conduct

South African law requires commercial website operators to disclose their membership of any self-regulatory or accreditation body, and any code of conduct to which they subscribe. Media organisations in South Africa may subscribe to industry codes that deal with accuracy, fairness, privacy, corrections and the handling of complaints, and those codes are administered independently of the publication. Where we belong to such a body, or subscribe to such a code, the details and the route for lodging a complaint are published in this section and are updated when they change. A complaint about editorial conduct can also be sent to us first at help@penportix.net, because we prefer to resolve concerns directly and quickly.

12. Changes to this notice and the last-updated date

We review this notice regularly and whenever our registration details, our contact arrangements, our policies or the law change. The current version is the one published on this page, and the date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Changes take effect when the revised notice is published. If a change materially affects your rights, we will draw attention to it on the website. Continued use of the website after a change means that you accept the revised notice.

The questions we are asked most often are where to send a correction, where to send a privacy request and where to send a legal notice. All three go to help@penportix.net, addressed to the Information Officer where the matter concerns personal information or access to records, and to the editor where the matter concerns a factual complaint about an article. Please include the headline and publication date of the article you are writing about, and your own contact details, so that we can respond.
